The terms and conditions, including base salary, for this position are set by the Kindergarten Teachers, Head Teachers and Senior Teachers' Collective Agreement 2023-2026.
Who are we?
Hutt City Kindergartens have been growing young learners for over 95 years in Lower Hutt, providing quality and affordable early childhood education. Our teaching teams are passionate about providing rich learning environments where children can explore, develop and have fun. We welcome people who share that passion.
We are a not-for-profit dedicated to making quality early childhood education accessible to all. We have 21 kindergartens throughout the Hutt Valley, including Stokes Valley, Central Hutt, Western Hills, Wainuiomata and Wallaceville. About Titiro Whakamua Kindergarten
Titiro Whakamua Kindergarten is a specialist early learning service supporting young parents who are still in school or returning to education after having a child. This kaupapa plays a vital role in creating inclusive pathways for whānau to continue their learning journey while their tamariki thrive in a nurturing environment.
Titiro Whakamua is also open to the wider community and currently has enrolment spaces available for children from 0 - 5 years. It is located on the grounds of Heretaunga College in Upper Hutt.
The kindergarten currently closes during school holidays but will potentially remain open for additional weeks every year, to suit the needs of the community.
The position
We are seeking two Teachers with plenty of drive and dedication. Our teachers are passionate about providing learning opportunities that encourage curiosity and wonder - are you excited to bring your own skills, talents and experiences into our team?
Working at Titiro Whakamua Kindergarten will allow you to:

To be successful you will need to:
be a committed team player, with a positive and open-minded attitude
have previous experience working with tamariki from 0 - 5 years old
embrace the vibrant hum of kindergarten, while encouraging a calm, peaceful learning environment
have a comprehensive understanding of Te Whāriki
be intuitive and understanding of the varying needs of tamariki and whānau
have the proven ability to write engaging and informative assessments
have excellent communication skills and a great sense of humour!

Applicants must hold a:
Minimum of Dip. Tch (ECE or Primary) qualification
Current Practicing Certificate from the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand
Current first aid certificate.
We offer competitive pay rates, 6 weeks’ annual leave and paid professional time.
