About Titiro Whakamua Kindergarten

Titiro Whakamua Kindergarten is a specialist early learning service supporting young parents who are still in school or returning to education after having a child. This kaupapa plays a vital role in creating inclusive pathways for whānau to continue their learning journey while their tamariki thrive in a nurturing environment.

We are fortunate to receive amazing support from KidsCan, who provide food for all the tamariki, every day of the week.

Titiro Whakamua is also open to the wider community and currently has enrolment spaces available for children from 0 - 5 years.  It is located on the grounds of Heretaunga College in Upper Hutt.

The kindergarten currently closes during school holidays but will potentially remain open for additional weeks every year, to suit the needs of the community.

The position

Are you looking for a rewarding part-time role where you can make a real difference each day? Join our warm and supportive team where you'll play a vital part in keeping the kindergarten running smoothly — managing day-to-day admin, supporting the team, and helping with KidsCan meals for the tamariki.

This is a varied, hands-on role where no two days are quite the same. You’ll split your time between the office and kitchen, working closely with the Senior Head Teacher and supporting both staff and families.

We’d love to hear from you if you are:

  • Available Monday to Friday, 9:00am – 2:30pm

  • Reliable, dependable, and completely trustworthy

  • Organised and proactive, with strong attention to detail

  • Experienced in administration, office coordination or finance

  • A strong communicator – confident, friendly and empathetic

  • Comfortable handling basic kitchen duties – heating and serving KidsCan meals (training provided).

Some (but not all) of the key tasks are:

  • maintaining our data management system, including processing enrolments

  • accounts payable and receivable, bank reconciliations

  • customer service (answering phone, email and face to face enquiries)

  • collating and publishing kindergarten newsletters

  • office management (ordering supplies, filing etc)

  • meal preparation and cleanup in the kitchen

  • ordering meals from KidsCan.

You’ll enjoy being part of a small team, doing jobs that are vital to the smooth running of the kindergarten.  You'll be happy to spend some time with the babies and children, so previous childcare experience is an advantage, but not a requirement.
