Taking care of our tamariki
Warm coats, comfortable shoes and healthy meals make for a happy day at kindergarten. Earlier this year Taita Kindergarten was chosen to be part of the KidsCan programme and the tamariki have been enjoying their new gear and delicious meals five days a week.
“It takes the pressure off parents because morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea are provided every day while their child is at kindergarten. This means there is no need to pack a lunchbox and whānau know that their tamariki are enjoying healthy meals and snacks”. said Kaye Goodall, Head Teacher at Taita Kindergarten.
Every six weeks the teachers choose meals from the KidsCan menu, taking into consideration the dietary requirements of their tamariki, including vegetarian and halal options.
The kaiako and whānau have also noticed a positive change in the eating habits of tamariki.
“We’ve seen fussy eaters trying new foods because they see their friends eating the same meals and our tamariki have become mad on fruit. It’s really great to see.”
It’s not just about the food.
“Each year the Kindergarten receives fleece lined rain jackets to give to their tamariki, and each child gets two pairs of shoes and socks per year. The tamariki love their jackets and comfortable shoes. Perfect for learning and playing outdoors”. said Kaye.
As well as receiving this support from KidsCan, Taita Kindergarten is also an affordable option for quality early childhood education.
“It only costs $40 a week for a child to attend kindergarten for 30 hours a week, thanks to 20 Hours ECE free and our low hourly fee. We’re a not-for-profit organisation so we keep our fees low. All of our teachers are qualified and experienced so that we can provide the best learning environment.” said Kaye.
Taita Kindergarten currently has spaces available and welcome local whānau to pop in for a visit to meet the teachers and take a look around.
The Kindergarten is open Monday to Friday, 8.45am – 2.45pm. Their address is 4 Shepherd Grove in Taita, or you can contact the team on 04 920 9834 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
