Hutt City Kindergartens have been growing young learners for over 95 years in Lower Hutt, providing quality and affordable early childhood education. Our teaching teams are passionate about providing rich learning environments where children can explore, develop and have fun. We welcome people who can share in that passion.

We are a not-for-profit dedicated to making quality early childhood education accessible to all. We have 21 kindergartens throughout the Hutt Valley, including Stokes Valley, Central Hutt, Western Hills, Wainuiomata and Wallaceville. About Pukeatua Kindergarten

Pukeatua Kindergarten offers a warm, friendly and relaxed environment for tamariki and whānau in Wainuiomata. The kindergarten is on a large, flat site, right next to Pukeatua School. A key strength of our kindergarten is the variety of activities that recognise the multicultural / bicultural nature of our whānau, who come from a rich diversity of backgrounds. We strive to ensure that each child’s identity is acknowledged and embraced and that they know kindergarten is “their place”.

We value and uphold the values of Tiriti o Waitangi and partnership, protection and participation underpin everything that happens within our kindergarten.

​The position

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher to join us at Pukeatua Kindergarten.  We're passionate about providing learning opportunities that encourage curiosity and wonder - are you excited to bring your own skills, talents and experiences to our team?

 Working at Pukeatua Kindergarten will allow you to:

  • experience regular high-quality professional development opportunities

  • complete a robust induction process led by your Head Teacher

  • maximise 12.5 hours of non-contact time, by engaging in regular team planning and assessment meetings

  • receive first aid recertification and annual flu vaccinations funded by the Association.

 To be successful at Pukeatua Kindergarten, you will need to:

  • be a committed team player, with an enthusiastic "can do" attitude 

  • embrace the vibrant hum of kindergarten, while encouraging a calm, peaceful learning environment

  • have a sound understanding of Te Whāriki

  • be intuitive and understanding of the varying needs of tamariki

  • have the proven ability to write engaging and informative assessments

  • have excellent communication skills and a great sense of humour!

Applying for this role

Applicants must hold a:

  • Minimum of Dip. Tch (ECE or Primary)

  • Current Practicing Certificate from the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand

  • Current first aid certificate.

We offer competitive pay rates, 6 weeks’ annual leave and paid professional time.
