Who are we?

Hutt City Kindergartens have been growing young learners for 95 years in Lower Hutt, providing quality and affordable early childhood education. Our teaching teams are passionate about providing rich learning environments where children can explore, develop and have fun. We welcome people who share that passion.

We are a not-for-profit dedicated to making quality early childhood education accessible to all. We have 22 kindergartens throughout the Hutt Valley, including Stokes Valley, Central Hutt, Western Hills, Wallaceville and Wainuiomata. Pencarrow's team is made up of three Teachers, an Administrator and a Head Teacher.

​The position

We are seeking a qualified and enthusiastic registered teacher to join our team for a 1 year fixed-term, while a permanent Teacher is on leave.

This is a part-time role for 16 hours per week. This position offers an excellent opportunity for someone living locally, or within close proximity to Wainuiomata, who is looking for employment within their community.

About the role

In this position, you will support our teaching team by providing:

  • Daily lunch break cover (Monday to Friday)

  • Head Teacher release time

  • Non-contact duties, including the preparation of learning assessments

  • Active participation in weekly team meetings and collaborative planning

You must be able to work every day to ensure consistent lunch cover, however there is some flexibility in how the 16 hours (including 5 hours of non-contact time) are arranged to accommodate both the successful applicant and the kindergarten.

About you

To be successful in this position, you will:

  • Have the legal right to work in New Zealand, - we are not an accredited employer

  • Hold a current practising certificate from the Teaching Council of Aotearoa

  • Demonstrate a strong knowledge and understanding of Te Whāriki

  • Be reliable, professional, and adaptable, with a positive and proactive approach

  • Value and uphold the individuality of each child

  • Be committed to building respectful, collaborative relationships with whānau and the wider community.

  • a current Practicing Certificate from the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand

  • a current first aid certificate

  • the legal right to work in Aotearoa New Zealand before applying for this role - we are not an accredited employer.
