Who are we?

Hutt City Kindergartens have been growing young learners for over 95 years in Lower Hutt, providing quality and affordable early childhood education. Our teaching teams are passionate about providing rich learning environments where children can explore, develop and have fun. We welcome people who can share in that passion.

We are a not-for-profit dedicated to making quality early childhood education accessible to all. We have 22 kindergartens throughout the Hutt Valley, including Stokes Valley, Central Hutt, Western Hills, Wainuiomata and Wallaceville. We are proud to be an integral part of our local community and celebrate our cultural diversity and identity.

About Pencarrow Kindergarten

We are an inclusive kindergarten community that provides equitable opportunities for all tamariki.  Our holistic approach to teaching and learning demonstrates how we understand, respect, and value the unique gifts each child carries with them throughout their life-long journey.

As an all-year service, the kindergarten will remain open for one week of each school holiday break, with a two-week closure period over Christmas / New Year and on public holidays.  

Our Wainuiomata location is a 15 minute drive from central Lower Hutt.

The successful applicant will:

  • Work collaboratively within an experienced and passionate teaching team

  • Provide high‑quality, nurturing care for young children

  • Plan and implement a responsive, inclusive curriculum for tamariki aged 2–5

  • Build respectful, trusting relationships with whānau and the wider community.

We are looking for a teacher who:

  • Holds an ECE teaching qualification and current practising certificate

  • Has relevant experience in a similar role

  • Values whanaungatanga, manaakitanga and inclusive practice

  • Uses, or is willing to learn, te reo Māori and Pacific languages

Working here will allow you to:

  • receive first aid recertification and annual flu vaccinations funded by the Association.

Applying for this role

Applicants must have:

  • a relevant teaching qualification - a minimum of Dip. Tch (ECE or Primary)

  • a current Practicing Certificate from the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand

  • a current first aid certificate

  • the legal right to work in Aotearoa New Zealand before applying for this role - we are not an accredited employer.
