Who are we?
Hutt City Kindergartens have been growing young learners for over 95 years in Lower Hutt, providing quality and affordable early childhood education. Our teaching teams are passionate about providing rich learning environments where children can explore, develop and have fun. We welcome people who can share in that passion.
We are a not-for-profit dedicated to making quality early childhood education accessible to all. We have 22 kindergartens throughout the Hutt Valley, including Stokes Valley, Central Hutt, Western Hills, Wainuiomata and Wallaceville. We are proud to be an integral part of our local community and celebrate our cultural diversity and identity.

The position
Are you a qualified early childhood teacher who thrives in a dynamic role and enjoys adapting to new environments? We're looking for two Itinerant Teachers to join our team, supporting our network of kindergartens by covering staff absences as needed.
We're passionate about providing learning opportunities that encourage curiosity and wonder - are you excited to share your own skills, talents and experiences with our teams?
Itinerant Teachers are permanent staff members who work across all of our locations, providing cover wherever they're needed. Variety and spontaneity are key aspects of this role!
As a permanent Teacher, you'll be guaranteed a full-time (40 hours per week) salary, while enjoying the satisfaction that comes from supporting all 22 kindergarten teams.
Working at Hutt City Kindergartens will allow you to:
build working relationships with the 140 staff across our Association
experience regular high-quality professional development opportunities
receive first aid recertification and annual flu vaccinations funded by the Association.
To be successful as an Itinerant Teacher, you will need to:
embrace change and have an enthusiastic "can do" attitude
enjoy working with a wide variety of teaching professionals
have proven experience as an excellent short-term Reliever
have the ability to travel anywhere from Wallaceville and Wainuiomata
be available to work an 8-hour day, between 7.30am - 5.00pm
be able to work during the school holidays
have a sound knowledge of Te Whāriki
be intuitive and understanding of the varying needs of tamariki
have excellent communication skills and a great sense of humour!

Applying for this role
Applicants must hold a:
Minimum of Dip. Tch (ECE or Primary)
Current Practicing Certificate from the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand
Current first aid certificate
New Zealand Driver Licence.

We offer competitive pay rates, 6 weeks’ annual leave and paid professional time.
