Boulcott Kindergarten - Part-time (.5) Teacher

Who are we?

Hutt City Kindergartens have been growing young learners for 98 years in Lower Hutt, providing quality and affordable early childhood education. Our teaching teams are passionate about providing rich learning environments where children can explore, develop and have fun. We welcome people who can share in that passion.

We are a not-for-profit dedicated to making quality early childhood education accessible to all. We have 22 kindergartens throughout the Hutt Valley, including Stokes Valley, Central Hutt, Western Hills, Wainuiomata and Wallaceville. We are proud to be an integral part of our local community and celebrate our cultural diversity and identity.

About Boulcott Kindergarten

Boulcott Kindergarten is located in the heart of Lower Hutt, just a short walk from Hutt Hospital and next to Boulcott Primary School. Our convenient location means we welcome whānau from all over the Hutt Valley.

Our team of five experienced teachers provide fun opportunities for tamariki to learn through play and develop a lifelong interest in learning.

As an all-year service, the kindergarten remains open for one week of each school holiday break, with a two-week closure period over Christmas / New Year and on public holidays.

The successful applicant will:

  • Enjoy working part-time hours every day (Monday - Friday)

  • Be available to work during school holidays

  • Work collaboratively within an experienced and passionate teaching team

  • Provide high‑quality, nurturing care for young children

  • Plan and implement a responsive, inclusive curriculum for tamariki aged 2–5.

We are looking for a teacher who:

  • Holds an ECE (or primary) teaching qualification, current practising certificate and first aid certificate

  • Values whanaungatanga, manaakitanga and inclusive practice

  • Uses, or is willing to learn, te reo Māori and Pacific languages

  • Builds respectful, trusting relationships with whānau and the wider community.

Working here will allow you to:

  • take most of your annual leave at times that suit you

  • experience regular high-quality professional development opportunities

  • receive first aid recertification and annual flu vaccinations funded by the Association.

Applicants must have:

  • a relevant teaching qualification - a minimum of Dip. Tch (ECE or Primary)

  • a current Practicing Certificate from the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand

  • a current first aid certificate

  • the legal right to work in Aotearoa New Zealand before applying for this role - we are not an accredited employer.
