Who are we?

Hutt City Kindergartens have been growing young learners for 98 years in Lower Hutt, providing quality and affordable early childhood education. Our teaching teams are passionate about providing rich learning environments where children can explore, develop and have fun. We welcome people who share that passion.

We are a not-for-profit dedicated to making quality early childhood education accessible to all. We have 22 kindergartens throughout the Hutt Valley, including Stokes Valley, Central Hutt, Western Hill and Wainuiomata. We are proud to be an integral part of our local community and celebrate our cultural diversity and identity.

About Holborn Kindergarten

Located on the Eastern Hills, children come to us from all areas of Stokes Valley.  At our kindergarten we foster a culture where respect, positive social competencies, inclusion, fun and a joy for learning are encouraged.  We see tamariki as unique individuals and value their potential.

We operate on a termly model, which means we close for the school holidays and our Administrator doesn't work during this time.

Our small team is made up of a Head Teacher, three Teachers and of course, an Administrator!

The Administrator position

Are you an experienced administrator looking for a rewarding part-time role where you can become a valued part of a close-knit kindergarten team?

Our Administrator plays an important role in keeping the kindergarten running smoothly. You’ll be the organised person who keeps things on track, while also being a familiar and welcoming face for our tamariki and whānau.

Based in the kindergarten office, this is a varied role with plenty of interaction. No two days are quite the same, and you’ll work closely with our teaching team while getting to know the children and families who make our kindergarten such a special place.

You’ll be someone who:

  • is looking for a part-time role and is available to work across 4–5 days each week

  • has experience in administration, banking and/or finance

  • is reliable, trustworthy and takes pride in following things through

  • has a great eye for detail and enjoys creating and maintaining effective systems

  • is proactive, well organised and good at anticipating what needs to be done

  • communicates confidently and professionally, verbally and in writing

  • enjoys being part of a team and is comfortable working in a busy, people-focused environment.

You’ll also be comfortable spending time alongside our tamariki and have the flexibility to occasionally provide lunch cover for teachers. Previous experience in an early childhood setting would be an advantage, but it’s not essential.

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

  • maintaining our data management system and processing enrolments

  • managing accounts payable and receivable, including bank reconciliations

  • responding to phone, email and face-to-face enquiries from families and others

  • cash handling and reconciliation

  • collating and publishing kindergarten newsletters

  • supporting teachers with excursion arrangements and maintaining resources, first aid and emergency supplies

  • keeping the office running smoothly, including ordering supplies, filing and general administration.

If you’re an experienced administrator who enjoys being organised, thrives on working with people and would like a role where your contribution really matters, we’d love to hear from you.
