Fetu Ao Kindergarten is located in the heart of Tui Glen School, in Stokes Valley offering an all-day early learning service (8:00am to 4:30pm) for tamariki ages 0-5. Our service blends the nurturing, child-centred philosophy of kindergarten with the flexibility of longer hours providing a stable and enriching environment for both tamariki and their whānau.

At Fetu Ao Kindergarten, you’ll find an inclusive and caring space where every child is supported to grow, explore, and develop.

Our teaching is grounded in the principles of Friedrich Froebel, the founder of kindergarten. This means tamariki are seen as capable, creative learners who thrive through hands-on experiences, play, and meaningful relationships with others. We foster learning through:

• Free play and exploration, where children choose their own activities based on curiosity and interest

• Nature-based experiences, encouraging connection to the natural world and care for the environment

• Practical life skills, such as gardening, cooking, and collaborative group projects

• Creative expression through art, music, storytelling, and movement

• Strong relationships between tamariki, kaiako, and whānau, recognising the importance of community in each child’s development

Our outdoor space invites exploration and imagination, with gardens, sandpits, areas to run and climb, and quiet corners for reflection. Indoors, we offer carefully arranged learning areas filled with open-ended resources and materials that spark creativity and problem-solving. A dedicated sleep space is available for tamariki who need rest during the day.
